MEET THE TEAM: IIDA - BECOMING A DIVEMASTER IN PHUKET

My name is Iida, and I’m a 23-year-old Bachelor of Sports Studies from Keuruu, Finland. This is my third season with Raya Divers, and I’ve been here in Phuket since December 2022. During my first two seasons, I completed my school internship as a snorkeling guide, and now I’m taking the next step in my diving career by completing my Divemaster course.

My journey with Raya Divers began long before I joined the team. In January 2017, my family and I visited Phuket to celebrate my father’s 50th birthday. We went on Raya’s Phi Phi trip, and that experience left a lasting impression on me. I remember thinking, “This is what I want to do when I grow up.” Fast forward a few years, and here I am living that dream.

What I love most about Thailand is the overall atmosphere. There’s a sense of calm and relaxation here that I don’t often feel in Finland. Being in Thailand helps me feel more grounded, with a clearer and steadier mind. As for Phuket, my absolute favorite place is Andamanda Water Park. Seriously, it’s the best place ever!

The best part of working with Raya Divers, without a doubt, is the amazing people I’ve met along the way. Over the past few years, I’ve made friendships that I know will last a lifetime. It’s such a supportive and fun environment to be a part of.

My favorite trip has to be the Phi Phi diving trip, which includes two dives and a tour of the island. The dive sites are incredible, and the island itself has some fantastic cafes that are perfect for a little post-dive relaxation.

My top tip for travelers? Buy sunscreen from home before you travel. The price is usually about the same, but at least you’ll know exactly what you’re getting. It’s a small detail, but it can make a big difference!

Overall, working with Raya Divers and being in Thailand has been an incredible adventure, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
